About our centre

The Kumon Malahide Study Centre offers maths and English programmes to children of all ages and all abilities. Kumon students develop more than just maths and English skills; they also become more confident and independent in all their learning.

As Kumon is an individualised programme tailored to each child, they move through the programme at their own pace, moving on to a new topic when they have mastered the current subject and have built confidence in their own abilities.

For students looking for more of a challenge, Kumon study means that they can progress beyond the curriculum and be ahead in class at school. Children can begin Kumon from as young as two years old with our Early Learner worksheets but can join at any age and at any time during the year.

The centre was first established in 2010, with a new Instructor taking over in 2021. Each child attends an initial assessment to enable the Instructor to set work at a just right level for them. Students attend the centre once or twice a week to study under the observation of the Instructor. They’ll collect their daily worksheets to be completed at home. During classes, the Instructor will observe each student so that they can continue to move through the programme at a pace that is right for them.

Did you know, you can now study Kumon using digital worksheets? This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here to find out more.

Please note: Thursday 5.30pm - 6.30pm is an online only class

About your Instructor

I became a Kumon Instructor in 2019 after previously working as a Senior Class Assistant in two Kumon centres for more than six years, with the Malahide centre being one of them. When the opportunity came along in 2021 to take over the Malahide centre I was delighted to take on the challenge.

My passion for learning and desire to pass on knowledge has developed naturally. After obtaining my degree in maths and history, as well as helping family and friends, I also began to tutor maths to secondary school students.

When I first observed the dramatic improvement that students were able to achieve with Kumon study in a short space of time, I was so impressed I became inspired to become a Kumon Instructor.

The most rewarding element of my role is watching student’s confidence grow and how they become so comfortable and eager to take on new topics fearlessly.

Please do get in touch to see how we can help your child reach their full potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
